Chess Rules Manual
01
Introduction
The product presented is a complete set of chess pieces. It consists of the standard pieces and an extra piece for game piece promotions.
The purpose of this design is to comply with the recommendations of FIDE (International Chess Federation), which regulates and provides the necessary guidelines for the execution of sanctioned tournaments of the different national federations throughout the world.
Due to these recommendations, the pieces are made of hardwood from different species, following the measurements recommended in the manual. This complies with the federation's basic guidelines for pieces to be used in official tournaments.

Design and Aesthetics
Our hardwood chess pieces stand out for their elegance, balance, and meticulous attention to detail. Each piece is precisely sculpted to highlight its distinctive features, such as the knight's facial details and the unique shapes of each figure. We've carefully considered the ergonomics and weight of the pieces to provide a pleasant tactile experience during play.
Design Premises:
– Maintaining the proportions of the classic Staunton design.
– Respect for the measures recommended by FIDE regulations for tournament pieces.
– Use of a modern and dynamic style in contrast to the classic design manufactured by the Indian industry, which currently dominates the market. One of the main differences lies in the base of the pieces. In classic models handcrafted by the Indian industry, all bases have the same height, regardless of their diameter.
This results in taller pieces having a proportionally higher center of mass than shorter pieces, such as pawns or other shorter pieces.
To address this issue, it was decided to use CNC turning, which allowed the proportionality of the pieces’ bases to be resolved. Considering that the pawn’s height is set at 1, the proportion that should be increased for the other pieces in the game was calculated.
Furthermore, the need to reduce the center of mass of the pieces was considered. To achieve this, the sphere was chosen as the starting point for the base design. The choice of the sphere is based on its ability to enclose the largest volume with the smallest surface area, which contributes to improving the stability of the pieces.
On the other hand, the horse required a different manufacturing method due to its symmetry in a vertical plane. It is not feasible to produce it using a simple turning process, as is done with the other pieces in the set. To manufacture this piece, a CNC router with a fourth rotary axis is used, allowing it to be carved in the material using an indexed rotation. The plate to which the piece is attached does not rotate freely at a constant speed, but rather the number of degrees it must rotate clockwise or counterclockwise is controlled. This capability allows the piece to have a high level of detail, which depends both on the design of the piece itself and the parameters of the tool used for carving.
As an aesthetic detail, it was considered that the knight’s gaze should convey determination and a slight impression of aggression, since it represents the figure that enters combat on the board.

Materials Used
When selecting materials for our hardwood chess pieces, we take a careful and meticulous approach, opting for high-quality, durable woods. We are committed to using hardwoods from sustainable sources, specifically from the Misiones region. This allows us to preserve the environment by using recycled wood and avoiding long-distance transportation.
Each set features a range of colors that highlight the natural tone of the wood, which depends on the species used in its manufacture. For the white pieces, we primarily use the guatambú species, which is used in all our sets. For the "black" pieces, we use various species such as angico, lapacho, incense, guayubira, and even To enhance the wood's natural beauty and ensure its strength and durability over time, each piece is precisely crafted. We apply a treatment using a blend of carnauba wax and tung oil, both natural and nontoxic products widely recognized in the wood industry. We pride ourselves on using high-quality materials in the manufacture of our hardwood chess pieces. This meticulous selection and careful processing ensure that each piece is a durable and environmentally friendly work of art.

Manufacturing Process
Our chess piece manufacturing process combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. We use CNC machines to perform the initial carving of the pieces, ensuring millimeter precision and achieving consistent uniformity across all pieces. This allows us to minimize waste, as manufacturing errors are limited solely to possible flaws in the material used, such as cracks, fungal stains, or insect-infested areas.
Subsequently, the hand finish is carried out, where our artisans refine the details and add the final touches that enhance the unique character of each piece. In this process, the piece is sanded and polished directly on the machining machine. Once this stage is completed, the piece is cut and waxed and mirror-polished by hand.
To achieve mirror-like waxing and polishing, we use various polishing wheels that, rotating at high speed, impregnate the wood with our special blend of natural waxes and oils. This process enhances the beauty and protects the wood, providing a smooth, glossy finish.
With this meticulous manufacturing process, we ensure that each of our hardwood chess pieces is of the highest quality, with precise details and an exceptional finish.

Quality control
At every stage of the manufacturing process, we implement rigorous quality controls to ensure our hardwood chess pieces meet our exacting standards. We perform detailed inspections to verify accurate measurements, quality carving, and impeccable finish. We also conduct strength and durability tests to ensure our pieces can withstand intensive use and maintain their quality over time.
From the outset, we apply controls to ensure that the wood we use meets our quality standards, avoiding insect damage, cracks, noticeable color changes, the presence of sapwood, fungal stains, or moisture.
The material rods are then cut, discarding any sections that do not meet our standards.
The dowels are then prepared, their measurements adjusted to the corresponding piece. During this process, any areas of the rods that exhibit any of the aforementioned conditions are also discarded.
Once the machining of the parts is complete, a checkpoint is performed to verify that they are smooth, free of cracks, perforations, or unwanted chips.
Finally, we wax and polish the pieces, performing a final check to ensure that the polish is uniform, smooth, and without alterations.
Our rigorous quality controls throughout every stage of the manufacturing process allow us to offer hardwood chess pieces that meet our highest standards. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with exceptional quality products, where each piece is a testament to the craftsmanship and attention to detail that distinguishes us.
